Frequently Asked Questions

If the answer you are looking for is not here then please contact us by clicking here.

Q: I’ve never exercised before, is this right for me?

A: You don’t need to have had any experience with exercise whatsoever in order to learn how to function correctly.

We will take it very easy from the start and gear the sessions to your current level of ability.

Q: What is functional training?

A:Functional training is essentially training to function better! Not just in exercise but in everyday life. Training functionally results in your joints and muscles working correctly allowing you to lift more safely, throw better, run better, walk better – even dance better!

We can help you to perform every day functions more efficiently and prevent injury by actually giving you back the motion in a joint that may have been lost for one reason or another.

Q: How will this help me tone up and lose weight?

A: After undergoing your initial assessments we will be able to take into account any dysfunctions that may affect how you are exercising. This allows us to create a safe and effective exercise program that will help you reach your goals whatever they may be. If we start from a poor foundation then injury can occur.

The corrective exercises will be an integral part of your fat loss program and compliment increased muscle density and strength.

Q: Can you help me with my pain?

A: Absolutely. The body is very complex and an injury to your big toe could directly affect your shoulder for example. What we can do is identify the problem and any secondary compensations from a Functional Assessment.

We can then give you back the movement that is causing the pain or pains.

More often then not it is somewhere completely different to the site of pain. The Functional Exercises you will be shown will then help to keep it at bay, often providing instant relief.

Q: What will happen when I contact you?

A: Firstly you will have your initial consultation where we will discuss your daily routine, commitments, nutritional habits, exercise history and set short, mid and long term goals that you agree on and can realistically achieve.

Second we look at what shape you are in. By assessing your current body composition we can make a bench mark to work from. This is done again after about eight weeks to check your progress. We will look at your posture to help you function better, avoid injury and help with pain relief.

Third we may also do some form of fitness assessment that is relevant to you and your goals. We must stress that this will be well within your capabilities. This again allows us to see how your fitness levels have improved over an eight week period. Lastly we help keep you going. You have done the hardest thing by deciding to make a change – we will take it from here.

Q: Will I need a lot of exercise equipment?

A: No – just enough space!

Functional exercises can be done in the comfort of your own home and we will teach how simple household objects like for instance broom handles can be utilized. We will provide any additional materials such as weights if needed.

Q: I’ve had physiotherapy with limited results – how is this going to help me?

A: Physiotherapy is a very credible means of rehabilitation. However it relies on the patient regularly doing the exercises set by the practitioner which doesn’t always happen.

Our approach puts more emphasis on how you can incorporate the exercises into your daily routine with limited disruption or equipment.

Q: When will I start to see results?

A:After your initial consultation and assessments which include gait analysis and range of motion tests we will introduce exercises for you as part of a program that will start working straight away. You will start to see improved/restored regular function in 2 sessions – guaranteed.

As for fat loss, shape change and cardiovascular improvement - well everyone responds differently but we would expect you certainly to feel better very quickly and see changes within six to eight weeks.
Remember you will need to exercise regularly and keep an eye on your diet to get results. Consistency is the key.
