"What to say about Catalyst and in particular Gen Levrant? Before I started with Gen I can safely say that I hated exercise and would have been dragged kicking and screaming to a gym. However, within a week I was actually enjoying myself and could see and feel the results of getting fit.

Gen is the most encouraging, funny and enthusiastic trainer and I can honestly say that she is also now a friend. Don’t think that the sweet exterior means she won’t push you. She can be a hard task master but never at the expense of enjoyment and never to the extent of causing fear!

The set up in the gym is intimate and not in the slightest bit intimidating for those of us who tremble at the thought of being surrounded by buff blokes who make you feel really fat! Both Gen and James are friendly and helpful and want to make you achieve your best.

I still don’t relish the thought of going to the gym but Gen’s smiling face makes it that bit more appealing!

Gemma Thresher "I had lost around seven and a half stones and had a further two and a half to lose. I hit a plateau, so six month before my wedding I began training with James. I chose James because he seemed very professional and whilst he worked his clients very hard, they also all had a smile on their faces.

Without a doubt James played a massive part in helping me to lose the last bit of weight and tone up to a level where I felt fantastic. He also managed to put up with me and all my wedding stresses and worries during all the wedding planning!

I am now back training with James after nearly a two year break. I needed a kick in the butt to get me motivated about health and fitness again and needless to say James was up to the job. I wasn't made to feel like a failure because I needed help again but more like an old friend being welcomed back.

Just five weeks into training with James again I have not only lost over half a stone but I feel so much better about myself. I'm re-learning it's not all about weight loss and have noticed a huge reduction in my waist and hip measurements. Our training sessions whizz by not seeming like an hour at all. Every session is different and ranges from treadmill to boxing and I find myself enjoying it all. As someone who used to hate the gym and exercise that's quite a big deal for me.

Kirsty Grieve: "not one blister or sore knee throughout my walk"

Kirsty Grieve "I contacted Gen at Catalyst after signing up for a charity trek on the Great Wall of China. My personal fitness level was at an ok level as I run outside regularly, but I soon discovered that wasn’t enough in preparing myself for all those steps!

Gen taught me loads about my posture and how that plays a really important part in this kind of physical challenge. During my many one-to-one sessions with Gen she gave me loads of tips and even when I was thousands of miles away I had her voice in my head telling me to remember my ‘core’!

Gen was really friendly and the personal exercise plan proved really important as I didn’t even have one blister or a sore knee throughout my walk. Thank you Gen!"

Philomena Fearn: "After the first few sessions Gen had already sorted my neck problems (no more hunching) and knee clicks that I never even noticed before!"

"After spending many hours in my car driving for work and hunched over computers I suffered with ongoing neck and back ache. I felt I needed some direction and to be challenged in order to get the most of the short time I had available to exercise so I approached Gen for an initial chat.

We set about a programme to work towards my goals of improving my posture, muscle tone and overall fitness levels and to help with my desire to have enough energy and breath to increase my swimming lengths from 20 to 50.

After the first few sessions Gen had already sorted my neck problems (no more hunching) and knee clicks that I never even noticed before! I'm delighted to have achieved 50 lengths of the pool and still be able to stand and breathe. My clothes fit better and I have a lot more energy. Gen is very passionate about what she does, easy going and full of patience for people like me who lack co-ordination! Our sessions are always fun and varied and she manages to push you that bit harder each time without you noticing. The time flies by and her encouragement has kept me on track and more positive and confident in what I'm doing.

Working out is now enjoyable instead of just a means to an end. I am now keen to take on a new challenge (perhaps the 10k run) and without Gen I would not have had the confidence.

I would recommend without question, I feel I have a new friend as well as an expert personal trainer. Give it a go!

Carolyn Kimber: "after six months of rehabilitation training with James I have become a totally different person"

"After many years of increasingly draining and limiting lower back pain and broken sleep, which I was told was caused by muscle spasms, I honestly thought that I’d never have an undisturbed night again let alone workout in the gym regularly and get back into shape.

Over the years I’d experienced a frozen shoulder, a trapped cartilage in my kneecap, and a couple of bunion operations (one somewhat botched). I was then referred to James and after six months of rehabilitation training with him combined with the Alexander Technique, I have become a totally different person.

I get a whole night’s sleep regularly
I can lift heavy shopping bags without repercussions
I can survive a nine hour intercontinental flight without wishing I’d stayed at home
I can bend over to pick up the post without worrying that I’m not going to be able to get up again
I no longer worry that next time I step off a pavement or onto an escalator that I’m going to have a ‘yelp’ moment
Yes, it’s certainly been hard work and there is still a way to go but to date it’s certainly been worth every minute and every penny.

Kay Bryan: "I feel generally healthier and my flexibility has increased. I have also ‘got a waist’ again and can even touch my toes!"

"I first contacted Gen about two months ago as I was not sure how to exercise with recurring tennis elbow and clicking knees. I had previously tried a regular gym but found that I could not use most of the equipment and no one seemed to be able to help me with my condition.

Two months later I am feeling so much better. My posture has improved and the joint problems have begun to decease. I do the exercises every other day alongside biking and they have become part of my routine. Everything else fits around it rather than the other way around.

Pete Bunting: "My friends have really noticed the difference"

"I just had to drop you a note to say I've been chopping and shifting logs all day and I'm really noticing the difference from last year! I just kept going on and on without tiring!

Funny as most of the actions I'm doing are complete replicas of what we've been doing in training, like lunging while picking up and stacking logs. My friends have really noticed the difference, I shifted 6 cubic-meters of logs and now have my 'ready- brek glow!'

I'm really pleased as it's proven what progress I've made!

Nadine Rendall "My lifestyle is active – cycling, long distance walking, swimming and riding. However, with the top of Mt Kilimanjaro in mind, I called on Gen to help target my training and keep me inspired.

"I’ve been working with James for just over three years now and he has been a real inspiration to me. He takes a lot of time to understand what you need & what goals you want to set.

For me it was training for the London Marathon & James, aside from setting the “gruelling” training plan, was the only person I could really talk to about the “ups & downs” of the training who understood.

James also has a great ability to work through a programme and set tasks which take you “out of your comfort zone” and take you a step further than you would go on your own. He also has a real depth of knowledge about the biomechanics/ muscles/ body/ diet so you are continually learning things.

I’m now working on building up muscle around my “dodgy” knees yet I can truly say they have never felt stronger – it’s made a noticeable and “real” difference. Aside of that James has had to endure my “endless diatribe” proving he must be one of the most tolerant and genuine guys around!

"I decided to go to a personal trainer about eight months after having a baby. I had been visiting the gym to get back in shape prior to this, but felt I was not really pushing myself as much as I could.
